Benefit Concert

An evening of piping by Gold Medallist, Andrew Hayes, from Ottawa, Ontario.

The recital was a benefit for the Nicol-Brown Amateur Invitational Competition, and a welcoming reception for the competitors. The competitors were introduced, and received their tune selections from the judges.

2014 Results

Ten of the finest Amateur pipers from across North America were invited to play in an elite invitational contest with three events: 6/8 Marches, Piobaireachd and MSR. The contest is dedicated annually to the memory of Robert U. Brown and Robert B. Nicol.

Judges for the 2014 Nicol-Brown Contest:
Andrew Hayes from Ottawa, Ontario: Gold Medallist at the Northern Meeting in 2010; Piobaireachd Society (Canada) Gold Medallist in 2003; and three Bars to that Gold Medal in 2006, 2007, and 2008, among a long list of solo piping prizes. Andrew was a competitor at the Nicol-Brown contest in 1990 and 1991, and returned this year for the second time as a judge. Andrew is Pipe Major of the Grade 2 Ottawa Police Service Pipe Band.
Michael Rogers from Silver Spring, Maryland: Gold Medallist at Oban in 2000, and Piobaireachd Society (Canada) Gold Medallist in 2001. Mike was a competitor at the Nicol-Brown contest in 1984, 1995, and 1996, and returned this year for the third time as a judge. Michael was Pipe Sergeant of the Grade 1 City of Washington Pipe Band.

The Library Room is reserved for our group. Nicol-Brown competitors, committee members, family, and friends are invited to drop in at a time that fits their travel plans before heading for the airport or the highways. Choose a table and the wait staff will take your order for breakfast. Separate checks have been approved by Professor Java.
